Hi, I’m Jeff Mootz! My passion is to know the depths of God’s heart as His friend and disciple others in the same lifestyle. I have 17 years of full-time prayer ministry and pastoral experience.

I spent eight years at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City (24/7 prayer since 1999) where I helped disciple Bible school students in prayer. Since moving back to my hometown of Sioux Falls, SD in 2014, I’ve been a pastor at the Underground House of Prayer and Encounter Church. I spend half my time ministering to the Lord in prayer, and the other half discipling or equipping others to disciple.

Do I need the video course, or is the workbook enough by itself?

  1. By design, the book is enough by itself. It has all of the content and instructions to lead you through the 40 weeks. We recommend viewing the free downloadable “Sample Copy” of the book and reading the Introduction, the How to Implement chapter, and the Assignment Overview section. If you don’t think the information in these documents is enough for you, the video course will greatly benefit you. 
  1. The video course expands on the teaching content, gives in-depth practical demonstration, and weaves in pastoral encouragement for the student. Jeff connects students to the larger vision of the 40 weeks to give them purpose in the day to day, and encourages them in the fruitfulness of what they are doing.

What is covered in the videos?

The videos follow the flow of the book. They cover the details of how to set up the course and follow it, teach every chapter in the workbook, explain the prayer assignments, and practically demonstrate how to do the prayer expressions that are taught in the workbook.

God has used this book to touch my heart in several different ways! It is very thorough and invites a distracted, shallow, “gratify me now” culture into the deep, conversation and process with God that confronts the harmful, “microwave mentality” we are all aware of. If you let it, this book will be catalytic in taking you into powerful encounters with Gods heart on several different topics! Many books exist to guide a person into greater intimacy with the Lord. However, the author Jeff Mootz, didn’t settle on knowledge or even testimonies of success. I was pleasantly delighted regarding the simplicity of each spiritual component Mootz laid out. A reader cannot leave this book saying they don’t know how to draw close to God, as Mootz laid out practical ways in a variety of spiritual disciplines to draw near to the heart of God. Mootz provided tangible applications with lessons to complete following each chapter. A key portion of the book was when Mootz discusses “How to have a quiet mind”—running thoughts have ultimately led me to waste my prayer time thinking about a plethora of topics that were not Jesus. Mootz provides steps to move away from the thoughts that hinder encountering the heart of God. Be ready for a life altering dive into the heart of God.

I love how practical this guide is. I am going through this with my spouse right now and plan to use it to help disciple others in their prayer life. Each module adds a foundation layer to bring understanding to who God really is and how to grow in a deeper relationship with him. It is so carefully and well worded to ensure that we have a right understanding of who God is and how he wants to connect with us ensuring we have nothing hindering our fellowship with Him. Which makes this a great help for anyone that has been in the faith for a long time but also for someone that is just coming to faith. This has especially been an amazing help to creates accountability for me to regularly set aside more prayer time with God.

Going Deeper is an in-depth, very practical book that has inspired and helped to equip me in Bible study and grow in my prayer life. Even though this book is primarily written as a discipleship tool for a student and mentor, the topics and assignments can be personalized even if you are just reading the book for yourself as I did. This is not a small book, you will need to make a commitment to work through it. I appreciate his examples from his personal life, knowing the outlines have been tested over his lifetime and he has been able to sustain it long-term – not just as a mountain top experience. This is not a book I read and will put back on my shelf. This is a book to reread to continue to implement change and energize my life with Jesus, personally pursue God and go deeper in different seasons for the rest of my life.

I’m so grateful for this book/course! Going Deeper has profoundly strengthened and provoked me in my walk with God. The ideas, language, and tone call me into more in a way that excites my heart and doesn’t lead to shame/condemnation, but joy and delight. I love how concrete and practical tools are given, while also provoking deeper spiritual hunger. After going through this book, I’ve grown in my relationship with God and I’m better equipped to continue growing throughout my life. Some of my favorite modules were on the beauty of God and biblical meditation. I felt breakthrough in healing my mind and emotions as I journeyed through those portions and did the assignments. Jeff Mootz discipleship guide, Going Deeper, will do just that…take you deeper! I have been enjoying the practical guide through prayer, scripture meditation, tongues, and the throne room! Going Deeper is an extraordinary appropriate title for this book. If you want to encounter God in a deeper way, experience God more fully, and grow in your love for Jesus, this is the book for you. Pastor Jeff is a great writer and pastor, and the process laid out in the book is challenging and effective in the best way possible.
